NEW AETV! SUMMER FITNESS WITH MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY

Well, Matthew McConaughey was such a hit during SXSW, that he’s decided to come back and join us for another AETV!

In today’s video, Matthew and I continue our series on tips for things to do here in town for NEW and VISITING Austinites, which we get a lot of during the summer. Today, Matthew and I discuss a topic that’s very close to his heart: Working out. (Because who likes to work out more than Matthew McConaughey? Obviously nobody.)

We hope you enjoy* our tips, and especially Matthew’s yoga poses!

(*For more Austin enjoyment, Austin Eavesdropper now has a brand new YouTube channel that you can subscribe to. You can still watch our Vimeo channel too if you like.)

(Also, say hi to our brand new video editor, Britton Byfield! Thanks for taking our insane footage Britton, and turning it into something nice!)

AETV: HOW TO MAKE A FANCY SUMMER COCKTAIL (With 2 Recipes!)

While simple folk turn to ye trusty margarita come summer, we know can do a little better than that in Austin, Texas. So when Drink.Well reached out to Austin Eavesdropper TV and asked if I’d like a summer cocktail lesson, I said: Drink? Free? With you? Give me five minutes.

Thus, I came shaker-to-shaker with Jessica and Tacy, intrepid co-owner and bar manager of Drink.Well, as well as recent competitors in the national mixology competition: the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. Having invented, and spat out, several of my own cocktail inventions (see: 2010’s “Pumpkin Pie White Russian,” 2011’s “Kombucha Vodka Twist”), I was eager to learn Jessica and Tacy’s ways.

On today’s Austin Eavesdropper TV, the two comely ladies showed me how to mix their award-winning beverages (the Civetta in Islay, which isn’t just pretty to say, it won Jessica a Campari regional competition), and the Espirita de Vida (which won Tacy a Don Q Rum regional competition). Jessica also taught me the Italian lore behind the Civetta in Islay (a sexy phrase which apparently refers to a “tease,” as well as an owl — um, didn’t you know that the owl is the Sophia Loren of the animal kingdom?), and Tacy taught me how to “spank” my mint before I add it into my beverage. This technique releases the mint flavor … but more importantly, it makes you look like a badass.

Jessica and Tacy also kindly shared their recipes with us!  Enjoy …

NEW AETV! HOW TO CHOOSE WINE ON A DATE, FEATURING REX PICKETT: AUTHOR OF SIDEWAYS

Sometimes while out eating, I like to look over at couples and guess what date they’re on based on body language.  “Oh, definitely first,” I’ll say to Ross.  “Second, contemplating a third,” or “third, and this might be the last one.”  He usually tells me to stop staring at people.

But when we got an opportunity to visit with Rex Pickett (author of Sideways – yep, the awesome wine movie Sideways) recently, it got my AETV director Los and I to thinking: What wine should people order on dates?  What’s a nice thing to order when you’re just getting to know someone?

So we asked Rex about the matter, and invited my friend / Austin Eavesdropper contributor Megan to join us.  This was filmed at Hyde Park Bar & Grill on Duval, and side note: My dad, whose favorite movie is Sideways, was off-camera watching this whole thing and grinning like a jack-o-lantern.  He interviewed Rex himself after the shoot, and I kind of wish we had also gotten that on camera.

Hope you enjoy!

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY AND I GIVE AUSTIN VISITORS SOME RECOMMENDATIONS

Hello, Reader!

I’m still kind of in blogger purgatory right now while the new Eavesdropper site finishes its build-out (any day now I promise), but couldn’t wait to share this with you.

Who knew that one day, I — Tolly Moseley — would get to interview Matthew McConaughey? (He’s much shorter in real life than I was expecting!)

This was a video collaboration between AETV and Citysearch, made specially for all of those SXSW out-of-towners who want to get a true Austin experience during their stay here. We selected 10 must-see places, Matthew and I, and we hope you like our recommendations!

Also coming this week: SXSW stuff.  I’m speaking on a SX Interactive panel this year, co-hosting a party, emceeing an awards ceremony, going to my husband’s (BIG!) SX show, and speaking at Texas Style Council.  Does anyone know where I can find a good, reliable, caffeine-only IV drip?

AETV2: HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN OSCARS PARTY

Welcome to the second-ever installment of AETV!

In this webisode, my friend Dabney Dwelle (frontman for My Golden Calf) assists me with a very important fashion matter: How to prepare for an Oscars party. You don’t want to attend your Oscars viewing this weekend all out-of-style, do you?  Fear not!  Dabney shares his ultra-coveted red carpet tips with us, and even sticks around to make some Oscars predictions with me.  Spoiler alert: Our predictions are most likely exactly what The Academy will choose.

Special thanks to Room Service Vintage and Hog Wild Vintage here in Austin, where we shot this one.

Thank you also to Austin CultureMap, who now hosts AETV on their fabulous site!
