LOVE IS A MIXTAPE: AMY’S BIRTHDAY APOCALYPTO EDITION.

REBECCA HAVEMEYER // Via Women and their Work

Hi friends! It’s been a while since we last spoke. But today I, Amy, am staring down a birthday.

I’ll be honest with you. If I had it my way, I would spend said birthday curled up in bed with my new best friends, Shiner Cheer bottles, and my old best friends, who are people. But while the former is all too ready to indulge my pity party, the latter refuses, so I had to think. Where would we go? What would we do? What’s the opposite of spending one’s birthday in bed?

Maybe it’s going to a Christmas show.

Maybe it’s going to a drag show.

MAYBE IT’S GOING TO A CHRISTMAS DRAG SHOW.

And with that, Rebecca Havemeyer – Austin’s beloved queen and Southern belle gender bender – became my birthday entertainment.

Now, you may not have a birthday this weekend. But if you like the prospect of drinking and dancing and drag-show-attending (these are a few of my fa-vor-ite things!) then perhaps you would also be interested in this annual, irreverent, Austin holiday tradition. It is called “Rebecca Havemeyer & Stanley Roy Williamson’s Christmas Apocalypto,” and they are performing tonight and tomorrow at The ND. Doors at 7:30, show at 8:30, and tickets ($12) are available here.

On Saturday, when we’re going, the Christmas Apocalypto cast will also host a closing night party down the street at Cheer Up Charlie’s. I will be in attendance, accepting birthday hugs! Or dances! Or shots! Just kidding. (Not really.)

Here’s a birthday mix I made for myself to celebrate, and I hope you like it too. See you tomorrow night, Rebecca.
