SXSW 2012

I’m warning you right now that this post may or may not be coherent.  But that’s OK: I’ve got a steely grip on my coffee mug, adrenaline pumping through my veins, and a naked Matthew McConaughey puppet at my side. Why you ask?  Four letters: SXSW.

Ever since I started blogging, SXSW has been an interesting way to track my 20s.  When I first started doing South By, I was all about music.  Each wristband a badge of honor, each show worth a thousand Facebook tags.  But now that I’ve gotten older / more career-driven, I consider myself a fully-fledged South By Interactive gal.  I’ve traded my wristbands for business cards, my sneakers for heels.  The transition felt complete last year when I saw Craig from Craigslist walking down the street, and squealed like a little fangirl.  Does it get more geeky than that?

This weekend I’m involved in four SXSW activities, and I’d love to see you at any one of them.  They range from networky/professional to straight-up boozy.

SXSW PANEL: Friday, March 9 at 2:00pm
Tomorrow, I’m speaking on panel called “The Future of Lifestyle Media” with Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, my buddy Camille of, and Andrew Wagner, Krrb creator, former editor-in-chief of ReadyMade Magazine, and co-founder of Dwell Magazine.  We’ll be talking about just what exactly IS lifestyle media, how to get involved, and the different ways we each maneuver inside the field. {Sheraton Austin, Capitol EFGH Room, 701 E. 11th St}

Citysearch is not only holding a sweet $5000 scavenger hunt in Austin this weekend, they’re hosting a happy hour at Second Bar & Kitchen that yours truly is co-hosting!  AETV will be in tow, interviewing people about their favorite spots in Austin, so come chat with us. More importantly, come have a well-earned drink with us.  We promise (maybe) not to film you while you’re tipsy. {200 Congress Ave}

This year marks Ten Thousand Villages’ 4th annual International Women’s Day Award Ceremony for the local branch of this neato fair trade operation.  I was incredibly honored to be asked to emcee the awards this year, and promised the organizers that I’ll try not to stutter!  These awards recognize Austin women doing remarkable work in the areas of environmentalism, humanitarianism, and animal welfare.  Past winners include adorable Sara Hickman as well as Austin Pets Alive. {1317 So. TEXAS STYLE COUNCIL PANEL: Sunday, March 11 at 1:30pm
After sleeping – literally – all day Saturday, I’ll be moderating the panel “Think Local, Go National” at the Texas Style Council with Camille (we are like panel spouses), Matt Swinney of Launch787, and Rae Cosmetics.  The theme of the whole conference this year is something I feel very passionately about: “Thinking beyond the blog.”  There’ll be a ton of style bloggers there, so if that’s you, come on out!  I’ll have my fancy shoes on.  {Smith Bldg at Blanton Museum of Art, 200 E.
